On Monday, January 15, 2018, from 9:00am – 3:00 pm, Partners General Building Contractors Association (GBCA) and ACE Mentor Program of Eastern PA will bring professionals from Clemens Construction Company and the ACE volunteer network of students and mentors together for a Martin Luther King Day service project designed to enhance the new local community garden in advance of the community’s large renovation project at Cecil Street Gardens – located at 5730-40 Kingsessing Ave. (Cecil St. & Kingsessing Ave.)

Together, the students and volunteers will build elevated garden planters that will enhance the quality of life for the residents in the Kingsessing section of Philadelphia. The planters with be incorporated into a local garden where the community can learn about, grow, and gain access to fresh and healthy food. The Myers Recreation Center is available for assembly and construction of the planters – as well as for use of restrooms and refreshments.

PROPOSED PROJECT |(4) ELEVATED GARDEN BEDS

The elevated garden beds will be approx. 4′ 4″ wide X 3′ 4″ deep x 36″ high.  The planting bed measures 22″ high on the outside, with about 20″ of planting depth on the inside. The garden beds will be elevated for drainage and to ensure user comfort for senior citizens.
