Philadelphia National Organization of Minority Architects would like to congratulate Richard Vilabrera Jr. Assoc AIA NOMA on his election as Associate Director of AIA Philadelphia.

Richard Vilabrera Jr, Assoc. AIA NOMA, is a Brooklyn native who moved to Philadelphia to obtain his Bachelor of Architecture  from Philadelphia University. Currently, he is a designer for Stokes Architecture, LLC.

Richard is a designer who is invested in the how and why of research-based architecture using modern day technology to explore the future of architecture. To further that ideology, Richard is a SketchUp Certified Content Developer to allow appropriate research methods to be translated cleanly in the digital realm.

He is currently the Competitions Chair for PEA (Philadelphia Emerging Architects) which just concluded a successful 2017 PEA Window Competition.

In addition, Richard conveys his love and understanding of architecture to future generations of budding architects by investing his time in being a mentor for the ACE Mentor Program and currently serving at the NOMAS Representative to the PhilaNOMA Executive Board.

"By serving on the Board of Directors as Assoc. AIA Director I’m looking to be a voice for the emerging/young professionals and beyond. I want to champion for more diversity and pipeline to the younger generation of what an architect is.  Being a recent grad (Class of ’16) I hope to channel the voice of students as well who are looking to enter the profession.”

The 2018 AIA Philadelphia Board Induction took place on January 11th at the Anthenaeum  of Philadelphia marking the beginning of Karen Blanchard, AIA, Principal of SITIO and  longtime friend of PhilaNOMA as AIA Philadelphia President and the renewal of PhilaNOMA President Tya Winn SEED NOMA as AIA Philadelphia Public Member.

Congratulations to all newly elected AIA Philadelphia Board of Directors and specially Richard Vilabrera Jr. !

We stand for equity, inclusion, and human rights

Access to good design is a fundamental right, and architects are the agents of change to make this right a reality. We stand for human and civil rights, the universal respect for human dignity, and the unbiased treatment of all persons in employment, civic, and business transactions regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical abilities, or religious practices. Our commitment to tolerance is evidenced not just by the policies we adopt, but in the words we speak, the actions we take, and the buildings we design.

This is why we advocate for protecting and expanding laws that reflect these values, such as fair housing policies, civil rights protections, and accessibility to the built environment for all.

Join the members of the Women in Architecture Committee, Phildelphia Emerging Architects Committee, and PhilaNOMA, for an intimate spaghetti dinner and conversation about diversity and firm culture.
