"FOR THE LOVE OF IT" - THE PHILANOMA 25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
This year PhilaNOMA, the Philadelphia chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects, is proud to celebrate our 25th year of championing diversity in architecture within Philadelphia. Thanks to our dedicated members and supportive partners and collaborators over the last three decades we have mentored emerging design professionals, supported small and mid-sized businesses, exposed youth to the architectural profession, and advocated for diversity in the field.
PhilaNOMA is presenting “For the Love of It” to commemorate this milestone in our history and set the tone for our continued success in the future. This anniversary celebration will honor esteemed members and their impact on the Philadelphia design community and highlight important moments and events in the chapter’s history. All proceeds will go to the PhilaNOMA 25 Fund; which will be used to support the continued growth of the organizations programming. With your continued support PhilaNOMA will be able to continue and increase programming for Project Pipeline, ARE Boot Camp, continuing education sessions for licensed professionals, Annual Firm Crawl, offer portfolio reviews for local students, connect minority professionals to employment opportunities in the region, and PhilaNOMA’s annual community service project.
We celebrate 25 years of consistent and impactful successes:
- Exposed over 700 kids to careers in architecture through our Project Pipeline camps and workshops.
- Two time honoree of NOMA Chapter of the Year
- Designed the Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporation’s (PACDC) Blue Ribbon winning Logan Parklet
- Started the Julian Francis Abele Scholarship for Philadelphia high schoolers
- Provided a much needed hand to over ten local nonprofits like the Kroc Center, ACE Mentor, and the Philadelphia Housing Authority through our MLK Day of Service projects
- Completed two Community Design Collaborative Projects as Volunteer Team
- Conducted Site Visits of Minority Designed and Constructed Projects
- Presented illustrious speakers like Phil Freelon, Kenny Gamble, and Francis Kere
- Hosted the 2014 NOMA Convention & Expo
- Honored Emmanuel Kelly, FAIA at the Inaugural “For the Love of It”
